           CaptainLenGuycastasternglanceuponthemenandsaidinasharptone:

           “Wearewaitingtoperishinourturn,intheseseas,wherewehavebeendraggedinspiteof—”

           “Besilent,Hearne,”criedWest,palewithanger,“orifnot—”

           “Hearnehassaidwhathehadtosay,”CaptainLenGuycontinued,coldly.“Nowitissaid,andIadvisehimnottointerruptmeasecondtime!”

           Theyallkneltdownontheicysurface,andthemurmursofprayerascendedtowardsheaven.

           WewaitedforCaptainLenGuytorisebeforewedidso.

           “Now,”heresumed,“afterthosewhoaredeadcomethosewhohavesurvived.TothemIsaythattheymustobeyme,whatevermyordersmaybe,andeveninourpresentsituationIshallnottolerateanyhesitationoropposition.
