           “Allright,”repliedWest—”ataminute’sinterval.”

           “Ifweshouldnotreturnbeforeevening,sendthesecondboatwithtenarmedmenundertheboatswain’sorders,andletthemstationthemselveswithinacable’slengthoftheshore,soastoescortusback.Youunderstand?”

           “Perfectly,captain.
