           Twentymenwereontheirside,andtoconstrainthemtolendahandtotheworkingoftheshipifsheweretobedivertedtothesouthwouldhavebeentoprovokethemtorebel.Therewasbutoneresource:toarousetheircovetousness,tostrikethechordofself-interest.

           Iintervened,therefore,andaddressedtheminatonewhichplacedtheseriousnessofmyproposalbeyondadoubt.
