ButatthisearlystagehehadalreadyawakenedMassy’shostilitybyrefusingtomakeitsixhundredinsteadoffive.“Icannotdothat,”wasallhehadsaid,simply,butwithsomuchdecisionthatMassydesistedatoncefrompressingthepoint,buthadthoughttohimself,“Can’t!Oldcurmudgeon.Won’tHemusthavelotsofmoney,buthewouldliketogetholdofasoftberthandthesixthpartofmyprofitsfornothingifheonlycould.”
