"Comeon,ShaggyMan,ifyouwantmetoshowyoutheroadtoButterfield."Sheclimbedthefenceintotheten-acrelotandhefollowedher,walkingslowlyandstumblingoverthelittlehillocksinthepastureasifhewasthinkingofsomethingelseanddidnotnoticethem.
"My,butyou’reclumsy!"saidthelittlegirl."Areyourfeettired?"
"No,miss;it’smywhiskers;theytireveryeasilyinthiswarmweather,"saidhe."Iwishitwouldsnow,don’tyou?"
"’Coursenot,ShaggyMan,"repliedDorothy,givinghimaseverelook."IfitsnowedinAugustitwouldspoilthecornandtheoatsandthewheat;andthenUncleHenrywouldn’thaveanycrops;andthatwouldmakehimpoor;and—"

"Thankee,miss;you’reverykindforyoursize,I’msure,"saidhegratefully.
