           Themisthadfloatedaway,andthemoorwasdrenchedwithgoldensunshinewhenwewentbacktothecastle.AsweenteredthehallIheardthesoundofadoghowling,andspokeofittooneofthemen-servantswhohadopenedthedoor.

           “ThatsoundslikeGelert.Isheshutupsomewhere?”

           Gelertwasabeautifulsheep-dogwhobelongedtoFeargusandwashisheart’sfriend.Iallowedhimtobekeptinthecourtyard.

           Themanhesitatedbeforeheansweredme,withacuriouslygraveface.

           “ItisGelert,miss.Heishowlingforhismaster.Wewereobligedtoshuthiminthestables.”

           “ButFeargusoughttohavereachedherebythistime,”Iwasbeginning.
