Andinspiteofthethrillingbeautyofthemoon,allbutthepartIstoodonmeltedintosoft,beautifulshadow,allbelowmeandaboveme.ButIdidnotturntolookatoraskmyselfaboutanything.Youseethedifficultyisthattherearenoearthlywordstotellit!Allmybeingwasecstasy—pure,lightecstasy!Oh,whatpoorwords—ButIknownoothers.IfIsaidthatIwashappy—HAPPY!—itwouldbenothing.IWAShappinessitself,IWASpurerapture!Ididnotlookatthebeautyofthenight,thesky,themarvelousmeltingshadow.IwasPARTofitall,onewithit.Nothingheldmenothing!Thebeautyofthenight,thelight,theairWEREwhatIwas,andIwasonlythrillingecstasyandwonderattheraptureofit.”
Istoppedandcoveredmyfacewithmyhands,andtearswetmyfingers.
“Oh,Icannotmakeitreal!Iwasonlytheresuchashort,shorttime.EvenifyouhadbeenwithmeIcouldnothavefoundwordsforit,eventhen.Itwassuchashorttime.Ionlystoodandliftedmyfaceandfeltthejoyofit,thepuremarvelofjoy.Ionlyheardmyselfmurmuringoverandoveragain:‘Oh,howbeautiful!howbeautiful!Oh,howBEAUTIFUL!’
