           Andwewereallmakingfaces—snarlingfaces;thiswasaninstinctwithus.WewereasangryasSaber-Tooth,thoughourangerwasalliedwithfear.IrememberthatIshriekedandmadefaceswiththebestofthem.Notonlydidtheysettheexample,butIfelttheurgefromwithinmetodothesamethingstheyweredoing.Myhairwasbristling,andIwasconvulsedwithafierce,unreasoningrage.

           ForsometimeoldSaber-Toothcontinueddashinginandoutoffirsttheonecaveandthentheother.ButthetwoFolkmerelyslippedbackandforththroughtheconnectingcreviceandeludedhim.Inthemeantimetherestofusupthebluffhadproceededtoaction.Everytimeheappearedoutsidewepeltedhimwithrocks.Atfirstwemerelydroppedthemonhim,butwesoonbegantowhizthemdownwiththeaddedforceofourmuscles.

           Icalledoutthecryofencouragement,andagainthebluffwascoveredbythescreaminghordeandthestoneswerefallingfasterthanever.Saber-Toothwasfranticwithrage.Timeandagainheassaultedthebluff.Onceheevengainedthefirstcrevice-entrancesbeforehefellback,butwasunabletoforcehiswayinside.
