           Shechatteredandscreamed,andscoldeddownatthebristling,tooth-gnashingcirclethathadgatheredbeneath.I,too,trembling,peereddownattheangrybeastsanddidmybesttoimitatemymother’scries.

           Theforeheadslantedbackfromtheeyes,andthehairbeganrightattheeyesandranupoverthehead.Theheaditselfwaspreposterouslysmallandwassupportedonanequallypreposterous,thick,shortneck.

           Therewasanelementaleconomyabouthisbody—aswasthereaboutallourbodies.Thechestwasdeep,itistrue,cavernouslydeep;buttherewerenofull-swellingmuscles,nowide-spreadingshoulders,noclean-limbedstraightness,nogeneroussymmetryofoutline.
