"Theymustbecunningdevils,"heexclaimedatlast. "Howcouldtheyhavedecoyedhimdownthere? TheEmbankmentisnotonthedirectlinetothestation. Thebridge,nodoubt,wastoocrowded,evenonsuchanight,fortheirpurpose. Well,Watson,weshallseewhowillwininthelongrun. Iamgoingoutnow!"
