           Oncethechillofmyoppositionwasremoved,hisownpent-upexcitementhadplay.Hetoogotupandpaced.Hetoogesticulatedandshouted.Webehavedlikemeninspired.Weweremeninspired.

           “We’llsettleallthat!”hesaidinanswertosomeincidentaldifficultythathadpulledmeup.“We’llsoonsettlethat!We’llstartthedrawingsformouldingsthisverynight.”

           “We’llstartthemnow,”Iresponded,andwehurriedofftothelaboratorytobeginuponthisworkforthwith.

           IwaslikeachildinWonderlandallthatnight.Thedawnfoundusbothstillatwork—wekeptourelectriclightgoingheedlessoftheday.Iremembernowexactlyhowthesedrawingslooked.IshadedandtintedwhileCavordrew—smudgedandhaste-markedtheywereineveryline,butwonderfullycorrect.Wegotouttheordersforthesteelblindsandframesweneededfromthatnight’swork,andtheglassspherewasdesignedwithinaweek.Wegaveupourafternoonconversationsandouroldroutinealtogether.Weworked,andwesleptandatewhenwecouldworknolongerforhungerandfatigue.Ourenthusiasminfectedevenourthreemen,thoughtheyhadnoideawhatthespherewasfor.ThroughthosedaysthemanGibbsgaveupwalking,andwenteverywhere,evenacrosstheroom,atasortoffussyrun.
