Thewriterclaimedbyamomentaryexpression,atwitchofamuscleoraglanceofaneye,tofathomaman’sinmostthoughts. Deceit,accordingtohim,wasanimpossibilityinthecaseofonetrainedtoobservationandanalysis. HisconclusionswereasinfallibleassomanypropositionsofEuclid. Sostartlingwouldhisresultsappeartotheuninitiatedthatuntiltheylearnedtheprocessesbywhichhehadarrivedatthemtheymightwellconsiderhimasanecromancer.
