Hewasatthattimeaveryyoungman,justengagedinthestudyofthelaw;andElizabethfoundhimextremelyagreeable,andeveryplaninhisfavourwasconfirmed.HewasinvitedtoKellynchHall;hewastalkedofandexpectedalltherestoftheyear;buthenevercame.Thefollowingspringhewasseenagainintown,foundequallyagreeable,againencouraged,invited,andexpected,andagainhedidnotcome;andthenexttidingswerethathewasmarried.InsteadofpushinghisfortuneinthelinemarkedoutfortheheirofthehouseofElliot,hehadpurchasedindependencebyunitinghimselftoarichwomanofinferiorbirth.
