Amistdispersed;Isawmylifetobeforfeit;andfledfromthesceneoftheseexcesses,atoncegloryingandtrembling,mylustofevilgratifiedandstimulated,myloveoflifescrewedtothetopmostpeg. IrantothehouseinSoho,and(tomakeassurancedoublysure)destroyedmypapers; thenceIsetoutthroughthelamplitstreets,inthesamedividedecstasyofmind,gloatingonmycrime,light-headedlydevisingothersinthefuture,andyetstillhasteningandstillhearkeninginmywakeforthestepsoftheavenger. Hydehadasonguponhislipsashecompoundedthedraught,andashedrankit,pledgedthedeadman.
