Foronething,Iamaversetoexploitingcertainunmistakablyactualfactsandconditions obviouslyunknowntothemyriadtouristswhothrongaboutthepyramidsandapparentlysecretedwithmuchdiligencebytheauthoritiesatCairo,whocannotbewhollyignorantofthem. WhatIsaw—orthoughtIsaw—certainlydidnottakeplace; butisrathertobeviewedasaresultofmythenrecentreadingsinEgyptology, andofthespeculationsanentthisthemewhichmyenvironmentnaturallyprompted.
