Andthefollowingday,aswecametothenorthernroad,wekeptoureyesuponLiberty5-3000inthefield.Andeachdaythereafterweknewtheillnessofwaitingforourhouronthenorthernroad.AndtherewelookedatLiberty5-3000eachday.Weknownotwhethertheylookedatusalso,butwethinktheydid.Thenonedaytheycameclosetothehedge,andsuddenlytheyturnedtous.Theyturnedinawhirlandthemovementoftheirbodystopped,asifslashedoff,assuddenlyasithadstarted.Theystoodstillasastone,andtheylookedstraightuponus,straightintooureyes.Therewasnosmileontheirface,andnowelcome.Buttheirfacewastaut,andtheireyesweredark.Thentheyturnedasswiftly,andtheywalkedawayfromus.
Butthefollowingday,whenwecametotheroad,theysmiled.Theysmiledtousandforus.Andwesmiledinanswer.Theirheadfellback,andtheirarmsfell,asiftheirarmsandtheirthinwhiteneckwerestrickensuddenlywithagreatlassitude.Theywerenotlookinguponus,butuponthesky.Thentheyglancedatusovertheirshoulder,aswefeltasifahandhadtouchedourbody,slippingsoftlyfromourlipstoourfeet.
