           Peterwasonlytoogladtohandoverthestrangelittlebundlethatsquirmedandwhimperedinhisarms.

           "Now,"saidBobbie,quickly,"yourunstraighttothe‘RoseandCrown’andtellthem.PhilandIwillstayherewiththeprecious.Hush,then,adear,aduck,adarling!GoNOW,Peter!Run!"

           "Ican’truninthesethings,"saidPeter,firmly;"they’reasheavyaslead.I’llwalk."

           "ThenI’LLrun,"saidBobbie.
