           Shelovedeverybody,wasinterestedineverybody’shappiness,quicksightedtoeverybody’smerits;thoughtherselfamostfortunatecreature,andsurroundedwithblessingsinsuchanexcellentmother,andsomanygoodneighboursandfriends,andahomethatwantedfornothing.Thesimplicityandcheerfulnessofhernature,hercontentedandgratefulspirit,werearecommendationtoeverybody,andamineoffelicitytoherself.Shewasagreattalkeruponlittlematters,whichexactlysuitedMr.Woodhouse,fulloftrivialcommunicationsandharmlessgossip.

           Mrs.GoddardwasthemistressofaSchoolnotofaseminary,oranestablishment,oranythingwhichprofessed,inlongsentencesofrefinednonsense,tocombineliberalacquirementswithelegantmorality,uponnewprinciplesandnewsystemsandwhereyoungladiesforenormouspaymightbescrewedoutofhealthandintovanitybutareal,honest,old-fashionedBoarding-school,whereareasonablequantityofaccomplishmentsweresoldatareasonableprice,andwheregirlsmightbesenttobeoutoftheway,andscramblethemselvesintoalittleeducation,withoutanydangerofcomingbackprodigies.Mrs.Goddard’sschoolwasinhighreputeandverydeservedly;forHighburywasreckonedaparticularlyhealthyspot:shehadanamplehouseandgarden,gavethechildrenplentyofwholesomefood,letthemrunaboutagreatdealinthesummer,andinwinterdressedtheirchilblainswithherownhands.Itwasnowonderthatatrainoftwentyyoungcouplenowwalkedafterhertochurch.
