Underthesecircumstances,LordCanterville,Ifeelsurethatyouwillrecognizehowimpossibleitwouldbeformetoallowthemtoremaininthepossessionofanymemberofmyfamily; and,indeed,allsuchvaingaudsandtoys,howeversuitableornecessarytothedignityoftheBritisharistocracy,wouldbecompletelyoutofplaceamongthosewhohavebeenbroughtuponthesevere,andIbelieveimmortal,principlesofRepublicansimplicity. PerhapsIshouldmentionthatVirginiaisveryanxiousthatyoushouldallowhertoretainthebox,asamementoofyourunfortunatebutmisguidedancestor.
