           Thatverydaytheminersbegantheirlabors,withavigorandalacrityproportionatetotheirlongrestfromfatigueandtheirhopesofultimatesuccess.Nothinginterruptedtheprogressoftheworkexceptthenecessitythateachwasunderofreturningtohiscellinanticipationoftheturnkey’svisits.Theyhadlearnedtodistinguishthealmostimperceptiblesoundofhisfootstepsashedescendedtowardstheirdungeons,andhappily,neverfailedofbeingpreparedforhiscoming.
