Letusprivilegedoneshurrytothegreatbanqueting-roomandhaveaglanceatmatterstherewhilstTomisbeingmadereadyfortheimposingoccasion.Itisaspaciousapartment,withgildedpillarsandpilasters,andpicturedwallsandceilings.Atthedoorstandtallguards,asrigidasstatues,dressedinrichandpicturesquecostumes,andbearinghalberds.Inahighgallerywhichrunsallaroundtheplaceisabandofmusiciansandapackedcompanyofcitizensofbothsexes,inbrilliantattire.Inthecentreoftheroom,uponaraisedplatform,isTom’stable.
