           “Whatcausesoeverthoumightesthavehad,”saidtheking,“thoushouldsthaveforborneherinmypresence.Deceivenotthyself,thoushaltrepentthissin,forsuchashamewasneverbroughtuponmycourt;departnowfrommyfacewithallthehastethoumayest.”

           ThenBalintookuptheheadoftheladyandcarriedittohislodgings,androdeforthwithhissquirefromoutthetown.Thensaidhe,“Nowmustwepart;takeyethisheadandbearittomyfriendsinNorthumberland,andtellthemhowIspeed,andthatourworstfoeisdead;alsotellthemthatIamfreefromprison,andoftheadventureofmysword.”

           “Alas!”saidthesquire,“yearegreatlytoblametohavesodispleasedKingArthur.”

           “Asforthat,”saidSirBalin,“IgonowtofindKingRyence,anddestroyhimorlosemylife;forshouldItakehimprisoner,andleadhimtothecourt,perchanceKingArthurwouldforgiveme,andbecomemygoodandgraciouslord.”

           “WhereshallImeettheeagain?”saidthesquire.

           “InKingArthur’scourt,”saidBalin.
