Anne,tiredasshewas,madeonemoreeffortforthepublicwealthatnight,slippingoverthefieldstointerviewMr.Harrison,whowasasusualsmokinghispipeontheverandawithGingerbesidehim.StricklyspeakinghewasontheCarmodyroad;butJaneandGertie,whowerenotacquaintedwithhimsavebydoubtfulreport,hadnervouslybeggedAnnetocanvasshim.
Mr.Harrison,however,flatlyrefusedtosubscribeacent,andallAnne’swileswereinvain.
