TheImproversDIDknow,alltoowell.Eventheleastimaginativeamongthemcouldpicturethegrotesqueeffectofhalfamileofboardfenceadornedwithsuchadvertisements.Allthoughtofchurchandschoolgroundsvanishedbeforethisnewdanger.Parliamentaryrulesandregulationswereforgotten,andAnne,indespair,gaveuptryingtokeepminutesatall.Everybodytalkedatonceandfearfulwasthehubbub.
“Oh,letuskeepcalm,”imploredAnne,whowasthemostexcitedofthemall,“andtrytothinkofsomewayofpreventinghim.”
