Chapter XXX. Nanny's Dream

           `Onceyou’reup,’hesaid,`you’llseehowyouhavetogowellenough.’Ididashetoldme,andcreptoutverycarefully.Thenthelittlemanhandedmethebundleofdusters,saying,`Ialwayscarrythemonmyreapinghook,butIdon’tthinkyoucouldmanageitproperly.Youshallhaveitifyoulike.’Iwouldn’ttakeit,however,foritlookeddangerous.

           “IdidthebestIcouldwiththedusters,andcrawleduptothetopofthemoon.Butwhatagrandsightitwas!Thestarswereallovermyhead,sobrightandsonearthatIcouldalmosthavelaidholdofthem.TheroundballtowhichIclungwentbobbingandfloatingawaythroughthedarkblueaboveandbelowandoneveryside.Itwassobeautifulthatallfearleftme,andIsettoworkdiligently.Icleanedwindowafterwindow.AtlengthIcametoaverylittleone,inatwhichIpeeped.Therewastheroomwiththeboxofbeesinit!Ilaidmyeartothewindow,andheardthemusicalhumquitedistinctly.Agreatlongingtoseethemcameuponme,andIopenedthewindowandcreptin.Thelittleboxhadadoorlikeacloset.Iopenedit—thetiniestcrack—whenoutcamethelightwithsuchastingthatIcloseditagaininterror—not,however,beforethreebeeshadshotoutintotheroom,wheretheydartedaboutlikeflashesoflightning.Terriblyfrightened,Itriedtogetoutofthewindowagain,butIcouldnot:therewasnowaytotheoutsideofthemoonbutthroughthedoor;andthatwasintheroomwheretheladysat.
