           “It’sTheWilderness—Mr.Coleman’splace;butI’lldirectyouwhenwecomeintotheneighbourhood.”

           ItflasheduponDiamondwhohewas.Buthegotuponhisboxtoarrangehisthoughtsbeforemakinganyreply.

           ThegentlemanwasMr.Evans,towhomMissColemanwastohavebeenmarried,andDiamondhadseenhimseveraltimeswithherinthegarden.IhavesaidthathehadnotbehavedverywelltoMissColeman.Hehadputofftheirmarriagemorethanonceinacowardlyfashion,merelybecausehewasashamedtomarryuponasmallincome,andliveinahumbleway.Whenamanthinksofwhatpeoplewillsayinsuchacase,hemaylove,buthisloveisbutapooraffair.Mr.
