Onthe26thdayofOctoberwearrivedatthemetropolis,calledintheirlanguageLorbrulgrud,orPrideoftheUniverse.Mymastertookalodgingintheprincipalstreetofthecity,notfarfromtheroyalpalace,andputoutbillsintheusualform,containinganexactdescriptionofmypersonandparts.Hehiredalargeroombetweenthreeandfourhundredfeetwide.Heprovidedatablesixtyfeetindiameter,uponwhichIwastoactmypart,andpallisadoeditroundthreefeetfromtheedge,andasmanyhigh,topreventmyfallingover.Iwasshowntentimesa-day,tothewonderandsatisfactionofallpeople.Icouldnowspeakthelanguagetolerablywell,andperfectlyunderstoodeveryword,thatwasspokentome.Besides,Ihadlearnttheiralphabet,andcouldmakeashifttoexplainasentencehereandthere;forGlumdalclitchhadbeenmyinstructorwhilewewereathome,andatleisurehoursduringourjourney.
