           Ibemoanedmydesolatewidowandfatherlesschildren.Ilamentedmyownfollyandwilfulness,inattemptingasecondvoyage,againsttheadviceofallmyfriendsandrelations.Inthisterribleagitationofmind,IcouldnotforbearthinkingofLilliput,whoseinhabitantslookeduponmeasthegreatestprodigythateverappearedintheworld;whereIwasabletodrawanimperialfleetinmyhand,andperformthoseotheractions,whichwillberecordedforeverinthechroniclesofthatempire,whileposterityshallhardlybelievethem,althoughattestedbymillions.Ireflectedwhatamortificationitmustprovetome,toappearasinconsiderableinthisnation,asonesingleLilliputianwouldbeamongus.ButthisIconceivedwastobetheleastofmymisfortunes;for,ashumancreaturesareobservedtobemoresavageandcruelinproportiontotheirbulk,whatcouldIexpectbuttobeamorselinthemouthofthefirstamongtheseenormousbarbariansthatshouldhappentoseizeme?Undoubtedlyphilosophersareintheright,whentheytellusthatnothingisgreatorlittleotherwisethanbycomparison.Itmighthavepleasedfortune,tohavelettheLilliputiansfindsomenation,wherethepeoplewereasdiminutivewithrespecttothem,astheyweretome.Andwhoknowsbutthateventhisprodigiousraceofmortalsmightbeequallyovermatchedinsomedistantpartoftheworld,whereofwehaveyetnodiscovery.

           ScaredandconfoundedasIwas,Icouldnotforbeargoingonwiththesereflections,whenoneofthereapers,approachingwithintenyardsoftheridgewhereIlay,mademeapprehendthatwiththenextstepIshouldbesquashedtodeathunderhisfoot,orcutintwowithhisreaping-hook.Andtherefore,whenhewasagainabouttomove,Iscreamedasloudasfearcouldmakeme:whereuponthehugecreaturetrodshort,and,lookingroundaboutunderhimforsometime,atlastespiedmeasIlayontheground.
