Whenthisshowerofarrowswasover, Ifellagroaningwithgriefandpain; andthenstrivingagaintogetloose, theydischargedanothervolleylargerthanthefirst, andsomeofthemattemptedwithspearstostickmeinthesides; butbygoodluckIhadonabuffjerkin, whichtheycouldnotpierce. Ithoughtitthemostprudentmethodtoliestill, andmydesignwastocontinuesotillnight, when,mylefthandbeingalreadyloose,Icouldeasilyfreemyself: andasfortheinhabitants, IhadreasontobelieveImightbeamatchforthegreatestarmytheycouldbringagainstme, iftheywereallofthesamesizewithhimthatIsaw. Heappearedtobeofamiddleage, andtallerthananyoftheotherthreewhoattendedhim, whereofonewasapagethathelduphistrain,andseemedtobesomewhatlongerthanmymiddlefinger; theothertwostoodoneoneachsidetosupporthim.
