andparticularlythathismajesty’simperialheelsareloweratleastbyadrurrthananyofhiscourt(drurrisameasureaboutthefourteenthpartofaninch).Theanimositiesbetweenthesetwopartiesrunsohigh,thattheywillneithereat,nordrink,nortalkwitheachother.WecomputetheTramecksan,orhighheels,toexceedusinnumber;butthepoweriswhollyonourside.Weapprehendhisimperialhighness,theheirtothecrown,tohavesometendencytowardsthehighheels;atleastwecanplainlydiscoverthatoneofhisheelsishigherthantheother,whichgiveshimahobbleinhisgait.Now,inthemidstoftheseintestinedisquiets,wearethreatenedwithaninvasionfromtheislandofBlefuscu,whichistheothergreatempireoftheuniverse,almostaslargeandpowerfulasthisofhismajesty.Forastowhatwehaveheardyouaffirm,thatthereareotherkingdomsandstatesintheworldinhabitedbyhumancreaturesaslargeasyourself,ourphilosophersareinmuchdoubt,andwouldratherconjecturethatyoudroppedfromthemoon,oroneofthestars;becauseitiscertain,thatahundredmortalsofyourbulkwouldinashorttimedestroyallthefruitsandcattleofhismajesty’sdominions:besides,ourhistoriesofsixthousandmoonsmakenomentionofanyotherregionsthanthetwogreatempiresofLilliputandBlefuscu.Whichtwomightypowershave,asIwasgoingtotellyou,beenengagedinamostobstinatewarforsix-and-thirtymoonspast.Itbeganuponthefollowingoccasion.Itisallowedonallhands,thattheprimitivewayofbreakingeggs,beforeweeatthem,wasuponthelargerend;buthispresentmajesty’sgrandfather,whilehewasaboy,goingtoeatanegg,andbreakingitaccordingtotheancientpractice,happenedtocutoneofhisfingers.Whereupontheemperorhisfatherpublishedanedict,commandingallhissubjects,upongreatpenalties,tobreakthesmallerendoftheireggs.Thepeoplesohighlyresentedthislaw,thatourhistoriestellus,therehavebeensixrebellionsraisedonthataccount;whereinoneemperorlosthislife,andanotherhiscrown.
