Itisaveryjustifiablecauseofawar,toinvadeacountryafterthepeoplehavebeenwastedbyfamine,destroyedbypestilence,orembroiledbyfactionsamongthemselves.Itisjustifiabletoenterintowaragainstournearestally,whenoneofhistownsliesconvenientforus,oraterritoryofland,thatwouldrenderourdominionsroundandcomplete.Ifaprincesendsforcesintoanation,wherethepeoplearepoorandignorant,hemaylawfullyputhalfofthemtodeath,andmakeslavesoftherest,inordertocivilizeandreducethemfromtheirbarbarouswayofliving.Itisaverykingly,honourable,andfrequentpractice,whenoneprincedesirestheassistanceofanother,tosecurehimagainstaninvasion,thattheassistant,whenhehasdrivenouttheinvader,shouldseizeonthedominionshimself,andkill,imprison,orbanish,theprincehecametorelieve.Alliancebyblood,ormarriage,isafrequentcauseofwarbetweenprinces;andthenearerthekindredis,thegreatertheirdispositiontoquarrel;poornationsarehungry,andrichnationsareproud;andprideandhungerwilleverbeatvariance.Forthesereasons,thetradeofasoldierisheldthemosthonourableofallothers;becauseasoldierisaYahoohiredtokill,incoldblood,asmanyofhisownspecies,whohaveneveroffendedhim,aspossiblyhecan.
