Themasterhorseorderedasorrelnag,oneofhisservants,tountiethelargestoftheseanimals,andtakehimintotheyard.ThebeastandIwerebroughtclosetogether,andbyourcountenancesdiligentlycomparedbothbymasterandservant,whothereuponrepeatedseveraltimesthewordYahoo.Myhorrorandastonishmentarenottobedescribed,whenIobservedinthisabominableanimal,aperfecthumanfigure:thefaceofitindeedwasflatandbroad,thenosedepressed,thelipslarge,andthemouthwide;butthesedifferencesarecommontoallsavagenations,wherethelineamentsofthecountenancearedistorted,bythenativessufferingtheirinfantstoliegrovellingontheearth,orbycarryingthemontheirbacks,nuzzlingwiththeirfaceagainstthemothers’shoulders.
