           “Itseemsveryodd,”saidMaria,“thatyoushouldbestayingathomeinsteadofFanny.”

           “Iamsuresheoughttobeverymuchobligedtoyou,”addedJulia,hastilyleavingtheroomasshespoke,fromaconsciousnessthatsheoughttooffertostayathomeherself.

           “Fannywillfeelquiteasgratefulastheoccasionrequires,”wasEdmund’sonlyreply,andthesubjectdropt.
