           “Idonotwantheratallformyself,”saidhe;“butwheneveryouarenextinclinedtostayathome,IthinkMissCrawfordwouldbegladtohaveheralongertime—forawholemorning,inshort.ShehasagreatdesiretogetasfarasMansfieldCommon:Mrs.Granthasbeentellingherofitsfineviews,andIhavenodoubtofherbeingperfectlyequaltoit.Butanymorningwilldoforthis.Shewouldbeextremelysorrytointerferewithyou.Itwouldbeverywrongifshedid.Sheridesonlyforpleasure;youforhealth.”

           “Ishallnotrideto-morrow,certainly,”saidFanny;“Ihavebeenoutveryoftenlately,andwouldratherstayathome.YouknowIamstrongenoughnowtowalkverywell.”

           Edmundlookedpleased,whichmustbeFanny’scomfort,andtheridetoMansfieldCommontookplacethenextmorning:thepartyincludedalltheyoungpeoplebutherself,andwasmuchenjoyedatthetime,anddoublyenjoyedagainintheeveningdiscussion.Asuccessfulschemeofthissortgenerallybringsonanother;andthehavingbeentoMansfieldCommondisposedthemallforgoingsomewhereelsethedayafter.Thereweremanyotherviewstobeshewn;andthoughtheweatherwashot,therewereshadylaneswherevertheywantedtogo.Ayoungpartyisalwaysprovidedwithashadylane.Fourfinemorningssuccessivelywerespentinthismanner,inshewingtheCrawfordsthecountry,anddoingthehonoursofitsfinestspots.
