           Fannywasaffected.Shehadnotforeseenanythingofthis,andherfeelingscouldseldomwithstandthemelancholyinfluenceoftheword“last.”ShecriedasifshehadlovedMissCrawfordmorethanshepossiblycould;andMissCrawford,yetfarthersoftenedbythesightofsuchemotion,hungaboutherwithfondness,andsaid,“Ihatetoleaveyou.IshallseenoonehalfsoamiablewhereIamgoing.Whosaysweshallnotbesisters?Iknowweshall.Ifeelthatweareborntobeconnected;andthosetearsconvincemethatyoufeelittoo,dearFanny.”

           Fannyrousedherself,andreplyingonlyinpart,said,“Butyouareonlygoingfromonesetoffriendstoanother.Youaregoingtoaveryparticularfriend.”

           “Yes,verytrue.Mrs.Fraserhasbeenmyintimatefriendforyears.ButIhavenottheleastinclinationtogonearher.IcanthinkonlyofthefriendsIamleaving:myexcellentsister,yourself,andtheBertramsingeneral.Youhaveallsomuchmoreheartamongyouthanonefindsintheworldatlarge.Youallgivemeafeelingofbeingabletotrustandconfideinyou,whichincommonintercourseoneknowsnothingof.IwishIhadsettledwithMrs.FrasernottogotohertillafterEaster,amuchbettertimeforthevisit,butnowIcannotputheroff.
