           ThefirstwasfromtheAdmiraltoinformhisnephew,inafewwords,ofhishavingsucceededintheobjecthehadundertaken,thepromotionofyoungPrice,andenclosingtwomore,onefromtheSecretaryoftheFirstLordtoafriend,whomtheAdmiralhadsettoworkinthebusiness,theotherfromthatfriendtohimself,bywhichitappearedthathislordshiphadtheverygreathappinessofattendingtotherecommendationofSirCharles;thatSirCharleswasmuchdelightedinhavingsuchanopportunityofprovinghisregardforAdmiralCrawford,andthatthecircumstanceofMr.WilliamPrice’scommissionasSecondLieutenantofH.M.SloopThrushbeingmadeoutwasspreadinggeneraljoythroughawidecircleofgreatpeople.

           Whileherhandwastremblingundertheseletters,hereyerunningfromonetotheother,andherheartswellingwithemotion,Crawfordthuscontinued,withunfeignedeagerness,toexpresshisinterestintheevent—

           “Iwillnottalkofmyownhappiness,”saidhe,“greatasitis,forIthinkonlyofyours.Comparedwithyou,whohasarighttobehappy?Ihavealmostgrudgedmyselfmyownpriorknowledgeofwhatyououghttohaveknownbeforealltheworld.Ihavenotlostamoment,however.Thepostwaslatethismorning,buttherehasnotbeensinceamoment’sdelay.
