           TheproposalwasaverypleasantonetoWilliamhimself,whoenjoyedtheideaoftravellingpostwithfourhorses,andsuchagood-humoured,agreeablefriend;and,inlikeningittogoingupwithdespatches,wassayingatonceeverythinginfavourofitshappinessanddignitywhichhisimaginationcouldsuggest;andFanny,fromadifferentmotive,wasexceedinglypleased;fortheoriginalplanwasthatWilliamshouldgoupbythemailfromNorthamptonthefollowingnight,whichwouldnothaveallowedhimanhour’srestbeforehemusthavegotintoaPortsmouthcoach;andthoughthisofferofMr.Crawford’swouldrobherofmanyhoursofhiscompany,shewastoohappyinhavingWilliamsparedfromthefatigueofsuchajourney,tothinkofanythingelse.SirThomasapprovedofitforanotherreason.Hisnephew’sintroductiontoAdmiralCrawfordmightbeofservice.TheAdmiral,hebelieved,hadinterest.Uponthewhole,itwasaveryjoyousnote.Fanny’sspiritslivedonithalfthemorning,derivingsomeaccessionofpleasurefromitswriterbeinghimselftogoaway.
