           ShemetMissCrawfordwithinafewyardsoftheParsonage,justsettingouttocallonher,andasitseemedtoherthatherfriend,thoughobligedtoinsistonturningback,wasunwillingtoloseherwalk,sheexplainedherbusinessatonce,andobserved,thatifshewouldbesokindastogiveheropinion,itmightbealltalkedoveraswellwithoutdoorsaswithin.MissCrawfordappearedgratifiedbytheapplication,andafteramoment’sthought,urgedFanny’sreturningwithherinamuchmorecordialmannerthanbefore,andproposedtheirgoingupintoherroom,wheretheymighthaveacomfortablecoze,withoutdisturbingDr.andMrs.Grant,whoweretogetherinthedrawing-room.ItwasjusttheplantosuitFanny;andwithagreatdealofgratitudeonhersideforsuchreadyandkindattention,theyproceededindoors,andupstairs,andweresoondeepintheinterestingsubject.MissCrawford,pleasedwiththeappeal,gaveherallherbestjudgmentandtaste,madeeverythingeasybyhersuggestions,andtriedtomakeeverythingagreeablebyherencouragement.Thedressbeingsettledinallitsgranderparts—“Butwhatshallyouhavebywayofnecklace?”saidMissCrawford.“Shallnotyouwearyourbrother’scross?”Andasshespokeshewasundoingasmallparcel,whichFannyhadobservedinherhandwhentheymet.
