           Yates,havingneverbeenwiththosewhothoughtmuchofparentalclaims,orfamilyconfidence,couldnotperceivethatanythingofthekindwasnecessary;andtherefore,thankingthem,said,“hepreferredremainingwherehewas,thathemightpayhisrespectstotheoldgentlemanhandsomelysincehewascome;andbesides,hedidnotthinkitwouldbefairbytheotherstohaveeverybodyrunaway.”

           Fannywasjustbeginningtocollectherself,andtofeelthatifshestaidlongerbehinditmightseemdisrespectful,whenthispointwassettled,andbeingcommissionedwiththebrotherandsister’sapology,sawthempreparingtogoasshequittedtheroomherselftoperformthedreadfuldutyofappearingbeforeheruncle.
