           Grantspoiledeverythingbylaughing;thatEdmundwasbehindhandwithhispart,andthatitwasmiserytohaveanythingtodowithMr.Rushworth,whowaswantingaprompterthrougheveryspeech.Sheknew,also,thatpoorMr.Rushworthcouldseldomgetanybodytorehearsewithhim:hiscomplaintcamebeforeheraswellastherest;andsodecidedtohereyewashercousinMaria’savoidanceofhim,andsoneedlesslyoftentherehearsalofthefirstscenebetweenherandMr.Crawford,thatshehadsoonalltheterrorofothercomplaintsfromhim.Sofarfrombeingallsatisfiedandallenjoying,shefoundeverybodyrequiringsomethingtheyhadnot,andgivingoccasionofdiscontenttotheothers.Everybodyhadaparteithertoolongortooshort;nobodywouldattendastheyought;nobodywouldrememberonwhichsidetheyweretocomein;nobodybutthecomplainerwouldobserveanydirections.

           Fannybelievedherselftoderiveasmuchinnocentenjoymentfromtheplayasanyofthem;HenryCrawfordactedwell,anditwasapleasuretohertocreepintothetheatre,andattendtherehearsalofthefirstact,inspiteofthefeelingsitexcitedinsomespeechesforMaria.Maria,shealsothought,actedwell,toowell;andafterthefirstrehearsalortwo,Fannybegantobetheironlyaudience;andsometimesasprompter,sometimesasspectator,wasoftenveryuseful.Asfarasshecouldjudge,Mr.Crawfordwasconsiderablythebestactorofall:hehadmoreconfidencethanEdmund,morejudgmentthanTom,moretalentandtastethanMr.Yates.
