           Ithadbeentheirschool-room;socalledtilltheMissBertramswouldnotallowittobecalledsoanylonger,andinhabitedassuchtoalaterperiod.ThereMissLeehadlived,andtheretheyhadreadandwritten,andtalkedandlaughed,tillwithinthelastthreeyears,whenshehadquittedthem.Theroomhadthenbecomeuseless,andforsometimewasquitedeserted,exceptbyFanny,whenshevisitedherplants,orwantedoneofthebooks,whichshewasstillgladtokeepthere,fromthedeficiencyofspaceandaccommodationinherlittlechamberabove:butgradually,ashervalueforthecomfortsofitincreased,shehadaddedtoherpossessions,andspentmoreofhertimethere;andhavingnothingtoopposeher,hadsonaturallyandsoartlesslyworkedherselfintoit,thatitwasnowgenerallyadmittedtobehers.TheEastroom,asithadbeencalledeversinceMariaBertramwassixteen,wasnowconsideredFanny’s,almostasdecidedlyasthewhiteattic:thesmallnessoftheonemakingtheuseoftheothersoevidentlyreasonablethattheMissBertrams,witheverysuperiorityintheirownapartmentswhichtheirownsenseofsuperioritycoulddemand,wereentirelyapprovingit;andMrs.Norris,havingstipulatedforthereneverbeingafireinitonFanny’saccount,wastolerablyresignedtoherhavingtheuseofwhatnobodyelsewanted,thoughthetermsinwhichshesometimesspokeoftheindulgenceseemedtoimplythatitwasthebestroominthehouse.
