           Fanny’sthoughtswerenowallengrossedbythetwowhohadlefthersolongago,andgettingquiteimpatient,sheresolvedtogoinsearchofthem.Shefollowedtheirstepsalongthebottomwalk,andhadjustturnedupintoanother,whenthevoiceandthelaughofMissCrawfordoncemorecaughtherear;thesoundapproached,andafewmorewindingsbroughtthembeforeher.Theywerejustreturnedintothewildernessfromthepark,towhichasidegate,notfastened,hadtemptedthemverysoonaftertheirleavingher,andtheyhadbeenacrossaportionoftheparkintotheveryavenuewhichFannyhadbeenhopingthewholemorningtoreachatlast,andhadbeensittingdownunderoneofthetrees.Thiswastheirhistory.Itwasevidentthattheyhadbeenspendingtheirtimepleasantly,andwerenotawareofthelengthoftheirabsence.Fanny’sbestconsolationwasinbeingassuredthatEdmundhadwishedforherverymuch,andthatheshouldcertainlyhavecomebackforher,hadshenotbeentiredalready;butthiswasnotquitesufficienttodoawaywiththepainofhavingbeenleftawholehour,whenhehadtalkedofonlyafewminutes,nortobanishthesortofcuriosityshefelttoknowwhattheyhadbeenconversingaboutallthattime;andtheresultofthewholewastoherdisappointmentanddepression,astheypreparedbygeneralagreementtoreturntothehouse.
