           Winteragaincameround,withitswinds,frosts,tamerobins,andsparklingstarlight.TheyearpreviousThomasinhadhardlybeenconsciousoftheseason’sadvance;thisyearshelaidherheartopentoexternalinfluencesofeverykind.Thelifeofthissweetcousin,herbaby,andherservants,cametoClym’ssensesonlyintheformofsoundsthroughawoodpartitionashesatoverbooksofexceptionallylargetype;buthisearbecameatlastsoaccustomedtotheseslightnoisesfromtheotherpartofthehousethathealmostcouldwitnessthescenestheysignified.
