           “Iwilldothis.Iwillwaitforadayortwolonger—notlongerthantwodayscertainly;andifshedoesnotsendtomeinthattimeIwillindeedsendtoher.IthoughttohaveseenWildeveheretonight.Ishefromhome?”

           Thomasinblushedalittle.“No,”shesaid.“Heismerelygoneoutforawalk.”

           “Whydidn’thetakeyouwithhim?Theeveningisfine.Youwantfreshairaswellashe.”

           “Oh,Idon’tcareforgoinganywhere;besides,thereisbaby.”

           “Yes,yes.Well,IhavebeenthinkingwhetherIshouldnotconsultyourhusbandaboutthisaswellasyou,”saidClymsteadily.

           “IfancyIwouldnot,”shequicklyanswered.“Itcandonogood.”
