           ThatsomekindofengagementhadsubsistedbetweenWilloughbyandMarianneshecouldnotdoubt,andthatWilloughbywaswearyofit,seemedequallyclear;forhoweverMariannemightstillfeedherownwishes,SHEcouldnotattributesuchbehaviourtomistakeormisapprehensionofanykind.Nothingbutathoroughchangeofsentimentcouldaccountforit
