           Astheseconsiderationsoccurredtoherinpainfulsuccession,sheweptforhim,morethanforherself.Supportedbytheconvictionofhavingdonenothingtomeritherpresentunhappiness,andconsoledbythebeliefthatEdwardhaddonenothingtoforfeitheresteem,shethoughtshecouldevennow,underthefirstsmartoftheheavyblow,commandherselfenoughtoguardeverysuspicionofthetruthfromhermotherandsisters.Andsowellwassheabletoanswerherownexpectations,thatwhenshejoinedthematdinneronlytwohoursaftershehadfirstsufferedtheextinctionofallherdearesthopes,noonewouldhavesupposedfromtheappearanceofthesisters,thatElinorwasmourninginsecretoverobstacleswhichmustdivideherforeverfromtheobjectofherlove,andthatMariannewasinternallydwellingontheperfectionsofaman,ofwhosewholeheartshefeltthoroughlypossessed,andwhomsheexpectedtoseeineverycarriagewhichdroveneartheirhouse.
