           "Well!whatadelightfulroomthisis!Ineversawanythingsocharming!Onlythink,Mama,howitisimprovedsinceIwasherelast!Ialwaysthoughtitsuchasweetplace,ma’am!(turningtoMrs.Dashwood)butyouhavemadeitsocharming!Onlylook,sister,howdelightfuleverythingis!HowIshouldlikesuchahouseformyself!Shouldnotyou,Mr.Palmer?"

           Mr.Palmermadehernoanswer,anddidnotevenraisehiseyesfromthenewspaper.

           "Mr.Palmerdoesnothearme,"saidshe,laughing;"heneverdoessometimes.Itissoridiculous!"

           ThiswasquiteanewideatoMrs.Dashwood;shehadneverbeenusedtofindwitintheinattentionofanyone,andcouldnothelplookingwithsurpriseatthemboth.

           Mrs.Jennings,inthemeantime,talkedonasloudasshecould,andcontinuedheraccountoftheirsurprise,theeveningbefore,onseeingtheirfriends,withoutceasingtilleverythingwastold.Mrs.Palmerlaughedheartilyattherecollectionoftheirastonishment,andeverybodyagreed,twoorthreetimesover,thatithadbeenquiteanagreeablesurprise.

           "Youmaybelievehowgladweallweretoseethem,"addedMrs.Jennings,leaningforwardtowardsElinor,andspeakinginalowvoiceasifshemeanttobeheardbynooneelse,thoughtheywereseatedondifferentsidesoftheroom;"but,however,Ican’thelpwishingtheyhadnottravelledquitesofast,normadesuchalongjourneyofit,fortheycameallroundbyLondonuponaccountofsomebusiness,foryouknow(noddingsignificantlyandpointingtoherdaughter)itwaswronginhersituation.
