Chapter 17 — The Fight in the Cave of the Moon Butchers

           Twoofthemmissedwiththeirhatchets,andtherestfledincontinently.Thenthetwoalsoweresprintingawayupthecavern,withhandsclenchedandheadsdown.Ineversawmenrunlikethem!

           IknewthespearIhadwasnogoodforme.Itwasthinandflimsy,onlyeffectualforathrust,andtoolongforaquickrecover.SoIonlychasedtheSelenitesasfarasthefirstcarcass,andstoppedthereandpickeduponeofthecrowbarsthatwerelyingabout.Itfeltcomfortinglyheavy,andequaltosmashinganynumberofSelenites.Ithrewawaymyspear,andpickedupasecondcrowbarfortheotherhand.IfeltfivetimesbetterthanIhadwiththespear.IshookthetwothreateninglyattheSelenites,whohadcometoahaltinalittlecrowdfarawayupthecavern,andthenturnedabouttolookatCavor.
