           EvenI,whohadthetidegoingoutandinbeforemeinthebay,andevenwatchedfortheebbs,thebettertogetmyshellfishevenI(Isay)ifIhadsatdowntothink,insteadofragingatmyfate,musthavesoonguessedthesecret,andgotfree.Itwasnowonderthefishershadnotunderstoodme.Thewonderwasratherthattheyhadeverguessedmypitifulillusion,andtakenthetroubletocomeback.Ihadstarvedwithcoldandhungeronthatislandforcloseupononehundredhours.Butforthefishers,Imighthaveleftmybonesthere,inpurefolly.Andevenasitwas,Ihadpaidforitprettydear,notonlyinpastsufferings,butinmypresentcase;beingclothedlikeabeggar-man,scarceabletowalk,andingreatpainofmysorethroat.
