           ‘Whichremindsme!’saidMrs.Sparsit.‘Wouldyourememberamessagetoyoursister,Mr.Tom,ifIwastochargeyouwithone?’

           ‘Well?I’lltry,’returnedthereluctantwhelp,‘ifitisn’talongun.’

           ‘Itismerelymyrespectfulcompliments,’saidMrs.Sparsit,‘andIfearImaynottroubleherwithmysocietythisweek;beingstillalittlenervous,andbetterperhapsbymypoorself.’

           ‘Oh!Ifthat’sall,’observedTom,‘itwouldn’tmuchmatter,evenifIwastoforgetit,forLoo’snotlikelytothinkofyouunlesssheseesyou.’

           Havingpaidforhisentertainmentwiththisagreeablecompliment,herelapsedintoahangdogsilenceuntiltherewasnomoreIndiaaleleft,whenhesaid,‘Well,Mrs.Sparsit,Imustbeoff!’andwentoff.
